Crash kills Nebraska punter, Michigan State former punter

Sad news struck Spartan and Cornhusker players, coaches and fans everywhere on Sunday morning as we learned that former punters Mike Sadler and Sam Foltz were killed in a vehicle accident while leaving a punting camp in Wisconsin. The vehicle crashed into a tree following a loss of control on the wet pavement of Beaver Lake Road. Speed appears to be a factor in the traffic crash.

The decision is made with heavy hearts as an automobile crash over the weekend claimed the life of NU punter Sam Foltz.

A second passenger, Colby J. Delahoussaye, 21, of New Iberia, La., a place kicker for the Louisiana State University football team, was injured and taken to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for treatment, police said.

The reigning Big Ten punter of the year was about to begin his senior season. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Foltz led the Big Ten in punting in 2015, averaging 44.2 yards per punt. Foltz, a three-year starter, earned a degree in agronomy in May. "I don't know what else to say". Nebraska officials said that Riley and scheduled players will not attend.

Sam was truly a tremendous young man, who represented everything that a Nebraska student, athlete, teammate and friend should strive to be.

Sadler punted for Michigan State from 2009-2014.

CBS affiliate WLNS in Lansing, Michigan, reports Sadler is the only four-time academic All-American in MSU history and that he was supposed to be attending Stanford Law School this year.
