Man who hit Sacramento mayor with pie is charged

"Let me be clear, the mayor was assaulted tonight", said city spokeswoman Crystal Strait, as reported by the Bee.

FORMER NBA player and now Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson tackled and punched a protester who threw a pie at his face on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time) during a charity dinner. He said that the Sacramento mayor punched him over and over in the face, and that at least two of the punches landed solidly, causing bruising and other damages that required medical care prior to his incarceration.

Johnson, a former National Basketball Association star, was speaking at a dinner for Seeds of HOPE at a charter school in the city when 32-year-old Sean Thompson struck the mayor in the face with a pie, authorities say.

He was arrested on a felony charge of assaulting a public official and a misdemeanor of battery on school or park property, jail records show. Thompson walked near the mayor, pulled a coconut-cream pie from a bag, and smacked the pie into Johnson's face.

Johnson was hit by the pie at a Sacramento High School's Farm-to-Fork Seeds of Hope dinner on Wednesday night.

According to Miller's sources, "a protester ran at the mayor and threw a store-bought pie in his face".

"They got into a scuffle and started rolling around on the ground and looks like that guy (Thompson) got the worst of it", Faber said.

The Weeknd announces new album Starboy, shares title-track featuring Daft Punk
The Weeknd has been teasing on social media, and has unleashed his huge new track 'Starboy' featuring EDM legends Daft Punk. In a previous interview with Rolling Stone , he said , "I'll probably cut it if it starts interfering with my sight".

"So I chose to throw a pie in his face", Thompson said.

Asked if he'd do it again, Thompson told the Bee, "Absolutely".

Thompson is a member of the Occupy Sacramento movement and explained his motives in a jailhouse interview. "I still stand by what I did", said Thompson.

Police arrested 32-year-old Sean Thompson and held him on $100,000 bail for assaulting a public official.

"I don't normally condone violence - violence begets violence", Thompson said.

Thompson has been identified as a former Sacramento City College student and Occupy Sacramento activist, though he wanted to be clear that his actions were not a product of any Occupy agenda.

If McGraw's report can be proven, White says, prosecutors could have a tough time going forward with the case, given Thompson's contention that the beating started when he spoke to the mayor, not when he tossed his dessert.
