President Donald Trump: Health care replacement could take until 2018

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer promised no cooperation from Democrats unless there will be a repeal-and-replace package at the same time, and "So long as it covers as many people as the ACA, so long as it helps bring healthcare costs down, so long as it doesn't move our healthcare system backward".

Trump told Fox News that it could take until 2018 to roll out his proposal to replace the Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare.

In a letter [PDF] sent last week, the American Hospital Association tried to impress upon President Trump the importance of continuity of coverage.

"It statutorily takes a while to get", Trump said.

"We're going to be submitting, as soon as our secretary is approved, nearly simultaneously, shortly thereafter, a plan", Trump said then.

"You have to remember Obamacare doesn't work so we are putting in a wonderful plan", he added. "And I think that before the end of the year I would like to say yes".
