Indefatigable Wozniacki and Pliskova reach Qatar final

Caroline Wozniacki and Karolina Pliskova passed endurance tests to reach the final after winning two matches apiece at the rain-affected Qatar Open on Friday.

The Czech finally got her chance in the final game, flicking over a short, low-floating forehand which Wozniacki buried into the net to give Pliskova the match.

Wozniacki experienced a resurgence last season and the former world number one will play in her first final of 2017 on Saturday as a result of victories over Lauren Davis and Monica Puig. Today the Czech player was flawless and won in 80 minutes, conquering her second title this season after Brisbane and the eight in career.

The world No. 3 has enjoyed an excellent week in Doha, beating Caroline Garcia, Shuai Zhang and Dominika Cibulkova en route to the final. "But I'm going to try and get my revenge next time".

"I'm having a great start to the year, which is always important".

"I've been proud of how I've been playing this week", she said. She didn´t put many first serves in, and after just 20 minutes Pliskova was up already 4/0. "To beat two players like Dominika and Caroline is something wonderful".

In the second set the pair battled in lockstep until Pliskova broke in the tenth game when a Wozniacki backhand sank into the net.

"She (Pliskova) is playing really well, serving really well. I was in the final, so now the next step would be to win it".
