It's a small slide in the draft order too, as the Patriots will give up the No. 64 overall pick - the last selection of the second round - and take Carolina's No. 72 selection.

Now he's reportedly being shipped out of town in a deal that will send Ealy and a third-round pick to the Patriots for a second-round pick, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Ealy played 37% of the snaps as a rookie and had played almost 60% of the Panthers snaps over the past two season.

Ealy, who is listed at 6-foot-4, 273 pounds, is entering the final year of his contract.

At 25, though, Ealy is a player riddled with upside who has only started 15 games over the first three years of his career.

Google Releases Cloud Container Builder On GCP

The Patriots now own the 72nd, 96th, and 103rd picks in the third round.

Ealy entered the National Football League as a 2014 second-round draft choice out of Missouri, going 60th overall to the Panthers, which reflects how he was one of the higher-touted prospects coming out of the draft. They get Ealy and only move down 8 spots from the #64 to the #72 pick in the third round.

Defensive end Chris Long announced earlier he would not be returning to the Patriots, and Jabaal Sheard is a free agent.

Ealy posted 14 sacks and forced six fumbles since being drafted by the Panthers. He also registered 3 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and an interception in a Trey Flowers-esque performance during Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos.
