US Attorney Preet Bharara Tweets That He Has Been Fired

Attorney General Jeff Sessions' request that Obama-appointed attorneys quit was met with shock and dismay by pundits, many of whom argued Friday night that doing so was a poor decision.

Donald Trump got to say one of his favorite phrases to USA attorney Preet Bharara: "You're fired!"

During Obama's tenure he appointed 93 new U.S. Attorney's, but up until earlier this week, only 46 of them remained in their positions for various reasons.

Bharara's former district includes President Trump's NY residence and offices in Trump Tower.

Bharara's deputy Joon H. Kim will serve as acting U.S. Attorney, Bharara said. According to Buzzfeed News' Chris Geidner and Zoe Tillman, new presidents tend to replace most USA attorneys, but usually not so quickly, and not before successors have been nominated or confirmed. "Being the US Attorney in SDNY will forever be the greatest honor of my professional life". "When the US attorney steps down, the first assistant USA attorney becomes the acting (executive)".

U.S. Attorney Mark Green for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee could not be reached for comment. "I look forward to working with the administration to ensure a smooth transition and ensuring that our newly appointed and reappointed U.S. Attorneys are on the job as soon as is reasonably possible".

Dusseldorf police: Several people injured in ax attack at train station
Earlier, Bruno Macedo tweeted from a train stuck outside the station: "Man with axe chased by police in Dusseldorf". Witnesses reported seeing injured people lying on the ground, and at least one man armed with an axe.

'Deadly' bird flu outbreak on USA chicken farm
The farmers of the affected farm have been advised to bury the bodies of the dead chicken, to avoid spreading of the virus. A strain of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was detected on a chicken flock in Lincoln County, Tennessee.

Millions of dollars in tax refunds unclaimed by Alabamians
Failing to file a return could mean more than missing out on a refund of taxes withheld or paid in 2013, the IRS said. Ed Villanueva is a local tax agent who said he gets many clients asking about refunds from previous years.

The U.S. attorney position in the Western District of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City is vacant and now filled by Acting U.S. Attorney Mark Yancey.

"The way the Obama administration handled it was appropriate and respectful and classy", he said. Presidents generally appoint federal prosecutors based on recommendations from home-state senators, and Sens. They report to Justice Department leadership in Washington, and their priorities are expected to be in line with those of the attorney general. The demand for resignations seems a way to ensure he will have a team of new federal prosecutors more likely to share his agenda.

But US Attorney Preet Bharara refused to resign, announcing on Twitter he was instead sacked from his position.

Former members of the polygamous Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and their sympathizers also expressed surprise when a large-scale investigation of food stamp fraud that allegedly diverted more than $12 million for unapproved uses ended in misdemeanor convictions without prison time or fines for almost all the defendants.

"I think it's very unprofessional and I'm very disappointed", he said.
