
US Airlines Cancel 5400 Flights In Northeast Winter Storm
More than a thousand flights have already been cancelled in the Northeast in anticipation of a winter storm that is expected to dump at least a foot of snow across the region this week.
According to Flightaware, a website which tracks flights, the three major airports canceled over 50 percent of their flights for Tuesday, with the possibility that the number would rise.
American (AAL) cancelled all Tuesday flights at the NY airports and Boston Logan.
Many U.S. carriers are waving change fees for customers who are scheduled to fly to and from airports under the storm's bull's-eye.
United and American Airlines are offering date changes to passengers with imminent bookings to and from the north-east US. Meanwhile, American Airlines, JetBlue, and United Airlines have all canceled more than 500 flights apiece, according to the AP. For Philadelphia travelers, flights before 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday were canceled with operations expected resume on after 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The majority of Monday's cancellations have occurred in Chicago, where O'Hare International Airport has canceled more than 400 flights and Chicago Midway International Airport has canceled more than 160.
