"We just looked at our organization and realized that we do have a lot of girls travelling and this was potentially creating a situation that would either be a risk for the group or would create an uncomfortable situation in the case that somebody did get turned back at the border", she said.

Girl Guides of Canada announced that the organization is canceling all in the near future, citing concerns over safety, border reentry, and inclusivity for all of its members.

"At Girl Guides of Canada, we know our members value the safe, inclusive and accepting space that Guiding provides", the statement reads.

In a joint statement by global commissioner Sharron Callahan and director of provincial operations Holly Thompson as reported by the CBC, the scouting organization notes that "While the United States is a frequent destination for Guiding trips, the ability of all our members to equally enter this country is now uncertain".

"This was a very hard decision to make", the statement said.

The Girl Guides of Canada said in a letter to members it would not be approving any new trips to the United States until further notice.
