Nunes drew criticism after he held a news conference Wednesday to announce that he had seen intelligence reports showing that USA intelligence officials "incidentally collected" information related to Trump transition officials during "normal" foreign surveillance activities unrelated to the investigation into Moscow's role in the election.

Nunes (R-CA) defended the cancellation insisting that the hearing was only postponed to hear again from Comey and NSA director Mike Rogers in a closed session.

The chairman of the House intelligence committee has backed down from his dramatic assertion that Donald Trump and his aides were "monitored", by US spies - a claim the Republicans have cited this week in fundraising emails.

He said that Nunes' explanation, that they needed time to question Comey and Rogers, "is at most a dodge", adding that the committee could hold that closed hearing "at any time".

Although Judge Napolitano was dropped by the television network for claiming Obama's administration had asked the British intelligence agency to carry out the spying, Trump said he still "respects" the Judge.

"There was no wiretapping of Trump Tower", he said.

In an extraordinary set of statements to reporters, Republican Rep. Devin Nunes said the intercepted communications do not appear to be related to the ongoing FBI investigation into Trump associates' contacts with Russian Federation or any criminal warrants.

"You know, at the end of the day, that's a decision that no one other than Speaker Ryan can make", he said Friday on CNN's "New Day".

Germany 'owes vast sums' to NATO, US for defense
Donald Trump has dismissed reports of him seemingly snubbing Angela Merkel's request for a handshake as " fake news ". However, former foreign secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind said it was not enough to promise not to repeat the allegation.

Nunes would not say how he had received the new information. In some of the intelligence reports he reviewed, Nunes said, the names of Trump aides were blacked out, but he could figure them out anyway.

The FBI revealed Monday it is conducting an investigation into potential links between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation as it delves into Moscow's meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

"I have seen intelligence reports that clearly show the president elect and his team were at least monitored and disseminated out", Nunes told reporters.

In a declassified report released in January, the intelligence community concluded that Russian President Vladimir Putin helped the NY billionaire win the White House, an allegation dismissed both by Moscow and Trump.

Such a statement was made by a Republican Congressman Devin Nunes, who is Chair of the House Intelligence Committee.

Schiff, D-Calif., declined to go into specifics but said the evidence is "worthy of investigation and that is what we ought to do".

Later, in an interview with MSNBC, Mr Schiff said evidence "that is not circumstantial and is very much worthy of an investigation" exists of Trump associates colluding with Russian Federation as it interfered in last year's election. Typically, the American's name would not be revealed in a report about the intercepted communications.

In comments to the news organization CNN, Schiff said Nunes needed to decide "whether he is the chairman of an independent investigation. or he's going to act as a surrogate of the White House, because he can not do both".
