Pearl Jam, Tupac, Yes, Journey to be inducted into Rock Hall

The late rapper Tupac Shakur, Electric Light Orchestra and Yes were also part of the 2017 class inducted at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, which kicked off with a tribute to Chuck Berry. The show will be telecast on HBO on APRIL 29th at 8p (ET/PT).

There were a lot of great moments at tonight's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, but Pearl Jam were clearly the headliners.

It's a band that fought off the trappings of rock "n" roll fame that proved the downfall of many of its contemporaries. Opening with the strings of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, the band quickly kicked their classical leanings to the side for a ripping run-through of the sneering rock classic.

In reaction to concerned fans, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame said that "it's great of David to step in and we're keeping Neil in our thoughts". "My granddaughter had no idea who I was until I took her backstage to a Taylor Swift concert", she quipped. The band exploded in popularity from the start in the early 1990s behind songs like "Alive", "Jeremy" and "Even Flow".

Any special guests: Of course, it's rock and roll. "They are without question my favorite band". It's too bad, though, that Perry opted against even trying; Pineda's voice cracked like old paint several times during the tune and never came close to the power most of us remember from the heyday of Journey with Perry as frontman.

Regarding Yes, who finally was chosen for induction after being eligible for more than 20 years, Harris said he thinks it took so long for the group to be recognized because of "a prog-rock logjam", where the votes were being split between the biggest acts of the genre.

Alicia Keys performed a medley of Shakur's songs on piano, including "Dear Mama" and "Changes". He also had an unexpected shout out for Chance The Rapper, whom he thanked for his work in in Chicago with the school system and revealed the love his daughter Olivia has for him.

Jehovah Witness Kicks As Russia Moves To Ban Christian Group
This approach dates back to the Soviet period and impacts other religious groups, including peaceful Christians and Muslims. Russia's news agency is reporting the city court of Birobidzhan's decision to ban Jehovah's Witnesses will be upheld.

And then for the all-star jam, they were joined by Journey's Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain, Rush's Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson and Yes's Trevor Rabin and their former drummer Jack Irons for Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World".

Rick Wakeman's speech during the Yes induction was as much standup as it was acceptance speech. "This award is incredible to me because of all the people who have allowed me to join their lives and their bands". Covering Prince is a hard proposition, and his take on the Purple Rain classic didn't entirely land. For covering Prince, notching one whiff and a homerun is a pretty impressive score.

Then, it turned out that these guys in Pearl Jam were something more than a band.

In 1988 is when I first met most of the people involved in Pearl Jam who were all in a band called Mother Love Bone.

"Instead of collecting baseball cards we used to run around and wait for Tuesdays for all the European and Japanese import music magazines and try to get Randy Rhoads pictures (a famed guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, Rhoads was killed in a plane accident in 1982)".

"Climate change is real, " Vedder said. "'We can not be the generation history looks back on and thinks 'Why did they not do everything humanly possible to solve this biggest of problems?" For two years I did a show without a roof over the goddamn theater.
