Russia Vetoes UN Resolution Condemning Syria Chemical Weapons Attack

Shortly after Tillerson and Lavrov finished speaking to reporters, Trump said in a news conference that the United States is "not getting along with Russian Federation at all" and that their relations are at an "all-time low".

USA intelligence agencies have said Russian Federation hacked Democratic Party emails and leaked them in an effort to damage the campaign of Democrat Hillary Clinton and ultimately to help Trump win. "But it doesn't have to be this way".

Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov has warned of attempts by groups to sabotage relations with the USA, following talks in Moscow with his U.S. counterpart Rex Tillerson.

Mr. Putin has pursued an overarching geopolitical goal throughout his long tenure as either Russia's President or Prime Minister: to see his country treated with the same respect the Soviet Union received during the Cold War, when it was acknowledged as an indispensable player on the global stage.

But the attack would not be the first time the Syrian government has used chemical weapons against its own citizens.

As Tillerson sat down for talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday, a senior Russian official assailed the "primitiveness and loutishness" of U.S. rhetoric, part of a volley of statements that appeared timed to maximize the awkwardness during the first visit to Moscow by a member of Trump's cabinet. "We want Russian Federation to use its influence over the Assad regime to stop the madness and the cruelty we see every day on the ground".

As a refresher, these words come amid an investigation into the scope of Russia's meddling in the 2016 election and what, if any, connection Trump's campaign staff and transition team may have had with the country as the meddling occurred.

Putin also said that confidence in an improvement in U.S.

"Right now we're not getting along with Russian Federation at all", Mr Trump said flatly during a White House news conference with Nato Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

Oil demand growth seen slowing for a second year
Demand growth for 2017 is now expected to be 1.3 million barrels per day, down from the IEA's previous forecast of 1.4 million. The combination of factors could keep a lid on oil prices, which have risen in the past six months after a three-year slump.

I am not happy with life in London - Chelsea striker Diego Costa
Costa will be determined to end his mini drought in front of goal when Chelsea face Manchester United away next weekend. But Costa also says he would be content to remain with the West London club while they are achieving success.

Both Syria and Russian Federation, a longtime ally of Assad in the nation's ongoing civil war, have denied involvement in the chemical strike and have sought to place blame for the attack on terrorist groups in the region looking to spur USA military action against Assad.

Defence Secretary James Mattis said the Trump administration has "gone back through and looked at all the evidence we can and it's very clear who planned this attack, who authorized this attack and who conducted this attack itself". USA spending, too, has tapered off in recent years.

Responding to a question about the danger of their antagonistic positions related to Syria spiralling into "a conflict between the two nuclear-powered countries", Mr. Mattis said during a briefing at the Pentagon: "It will not spiral out of control".

The U.S. missile strikes early Friday were the first known direct attack by the American government on the Syrian regime since the country's civil war began in 2011.

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday he and Tillerson had discussed the U.S. strike and agreed "such a situation should not be repeated".

White House officials said Wednesday that there is credible evidence pointing to Russian interference in Montenegro's election last October. "Russia is engaged in a very sophisticated propaganda and disinformation campaign that is created to allow the Assad regime escape responsibility".

Trump and others have indeed threatened similar action. "No one showed us anything, no one said anything, although we repeatedly asked to produce the details on which these unfounded accusations lie". Tillerson called for Assad to eventually relinquish power.

And the USA warned Russian Federation that it is only isolating itself with its continued support of Assad.
