The Fate of the Furious breaks global box office record

Universal Pictures on Sunday estimated that The Fate of the Furious' would earn a record $532.5 million worldwide over the holiday weekend, thanks to a particularly robust showing in 63 territories, including China.

"Furious 8" also saw the advantage of the biggest three-day bow in history and the top opening ever for a Hollywood title by opening to a massive 192.1 million Dollars and debuted at No. 1 in all 63 foreign markets.

The film brought in $432.3 million from the global markets, which beat out the $316.7 million brought in by 2015's Jurassic World.

In the first two days of screening, "The Fate of the Furious" racked up $135 million in sales in China, though, unlike in other markets, only 25 percent of that will go to Universal Pictures. The film had 4-day long weekend and had minted around Rs 48 Crore (480 million) in all languages at the Box Office.

Dwayne Johnson will return to star in the ninth Fast & Furious film after burying the hatchet with Vin Diesel, a new report says.

"Each one of these films has its own momentum", said Nick Carpou, Universal's president of domestic distribution. Given Paul Walker's demise prior to the release of "Furious 7", it can be recalled that the franchise has been taken to a new direction.

The seventh installment was the final film to include actor Paul Walker, who died in a vehicle crash in 2013 while the movie was still in production.

Despite a tiresome critical response, the 8th instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise, "The fate of the furious" is smashing all the box-office records. Audiences agreed, handing "The Fate of the Furious" an A CinemaScore.

The F. Gary Gray-directed The Fate of the Furious stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Kurt Russell, Scott Eastwood, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren.

It was the No. 1 film everywhere, website BoxOfficeMojo.com reported. The film, that released on 14 April, was made on a budget of $250 million.

Elsewhere in the domestic top five, "The Boss Baby" beat Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" to the runner-up spot with $16 million, bringing its three-week total to $116.8 million.
