Matt Harvey rejoins Mets after 3-day suspension

When Harvey showed up Sunday expecting to start that day's contest, the Mets informed him of the suspension.

After the Mets beat the Miami Marlins on Saturday night, a still-fuming Collins met with COO Jeff Wilpon and General Manager Sandy Alderson and they agreed to suspend Harvey for three days, sources told The Post.

San Francisco, which has lost five of six, was playing at Citi Field for the first time since beating the Mets 3-0 last October 5 in the NL wild-card game.

As it stands, Harvey is on track to accumulate the requisite time in the big leagues to hit the open market in fall 2018, but if the Mets hold him in the minors, they could back that up by a year, at least. Before the Mets' game against San Francisco, he expressed embarrassment for his actions over the weekend, repeatedly saying, "I made a mistake".

Initial reports said Harvey planned to file a grievance with the MLB Players Association in response to his three-game suspension, but Harvey was noncommittal on the topic Tuesday. I'm here to make the team.' The second year, he said, 'I'm not here to make the team, I'm here to be the best.' He achieved both things.

"I understand everybody's anger and the organization did what they did and it's me who needs to fix it and make sure it never happens again".

Being suspended may not be the best thing to happen for Harvey in his past year with the Mets. I've apologized to the fans who showed up to see me throw or to see a different outcome of the game. "But he apologized for it, he's excited to be back, we're excited to have him back and we'll move forward from here".

Harvey corroborated the last part, but he says he was the first one to reach out to the Mets about having a migraine.
