ICE Says Over 1000 Gang Members Arrested in Nationwide Sweep

Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Thursday that its investigative branch has arrested 1,378 people across the United States in recent weeks in what officials called the largest anti-gang crackdown in the agency's history.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations, ran from March 26 through May 6.

Out of the 1,095 confirmed gang members and gang-affiliated suspects, 137 were linked to the Bloods gang, 104 with the Crips, 118 with the Sureños group and 104 with the MS-13 gang, officials said.

Three of the individuals arrested were previously under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program established in 2012 under former President Barack Obama.

Of those, 1,095 were confirmed as gang members, ICE said, while the remaining 238 "were arrested on either criminal or administrative charges".

All the individuals arrested had federal or state criminal charges, including drug trafficking, human smuggling, sex trafficking, murder and racketeering, according to the release. Agents arrested 104 suspected MS-13 members.

"Violent criminal gangs are the biggest threat facing our communities", said ICE Acting Director Thomas Homan.

"The success of this operation is directly attributed to the ongoing collaboration with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners", Brown continued in the press release.

ICE and Homeland Security Investigations conducted the raids.

The operation resulted in the seizure of 238 firearms, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, marijuana and $491,763 in USA currency, officials said.
