Trump Campaign Planned Back Channel For Trump-Putin

According to a New York Times report released last night, the Trump team was aware that Flynn was under investigation for secretly working for the Turkish government, yet nonetheless brought him on board as national security adviser, a position wherein he'd be privy to the highest levels of classified information.

Sources familiar with the communications asserted that they did not indicate collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian intelligence to subvert the 2016 presidential election, but instead consisted of discussions to strengthen relations between a potential Trump administration and Russia.

President Trump condemned the appointment of a special counsel to investigate whether his campaign colluded with Russian Federation, saying it would deepen the chasms that have split a "not-unified" America.

In a written statement, Trump insisted anew there were no nefarious ties between his campaign and Russian Federation.
