New Delhi, May30:A trainee IAS officer was on Monday late night found dead in the swimming pool of Foreign Club Institute, situated in Ber Sarai.

A patrol van called and informed Vasant Vihar police station during the early hours of Tuesday that somebody had drowned in the FSI pool and was being taken to hospital, Ishwar said.

Dahiya, a resident of Sonipat in Haryana was, attending a pool side party with friends from the Indian foreign and revenue services, police said. During the party, they made a decision to go for a swim in the pool located at the club.Police suspect they had consumed alcohol.

"Many young officers, including Dahiya, attempted to rescue her", a police official said.

Dahiya's family reached Delhi this afternoon and hinted at foul play. He was married for a year-and-a-half to his doctor (MBBS) wife Pragya Dahiya, who is also preparing for civil services.

Dahiya (30) was selected in the Indian Administrative Services in 2016.

Police are collecting the evidence from the spot and they are expected to record statements of relevant persons regarding investigation of this tragic episode. They said he was a good swimmer.

The deceased, Ashish Dahiya, was a Jammu and Kashmir cadre officer and had won the Directors Gold Medal during his IAS training around a fortnight back. The police say by the time they arrived, the officer had been taken to hospital by his colleagues. Soon, he was seen unconscious and floating.

"My son has swum five to eight kilometres in the Bhakra Nangal Dam in Himachal Pradesh during his police training", Narender Singh told IANS.

The dead body has been shifted to AIIMS for post mortem and family members have arrived in Delhi.

"The lady officer was safely pulled out but Dahiya went missing".

Kuldeep Singh, deceased's uncle, said, "Ashish informed family members that as they (all officers) will be joining their respective cadre by this week, so they chose to hold get-together party".
