May's office said she would chair a meeting of the government's COBRA emergency committee on Sunday.

On May 22, a British suicide bomber killed 22 people and injured dozens at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester. There were also reports of some people being taken into police custody.

Police officers yelled at people to run from the area.

Another witness has told Reuters she saw three people with their throats apparently cut on London Bridge.

After a white van ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge around 10.10pm local time (7.10am AEST), police confirmed that they were responding to incidents at Borough Market and Vauxhall.

The area is in lockdown, with armed police on the scene.

The BBC reports police are searching for three potentially armed suspects.

Another told Sky News there had been "significant gunfire" heard in the area.

Saturday's incidents also come more than two months after a man drove an SUV into a crowd on the sidewalk along Westminster Bridge in London, killing at least four people.

Police said they were dealing with an incident but gave no further details while the London Ambulance Service said it was sending multiple resources to the incident.

London Bridge underground station was closed at the request of the police.
