LeBron's brilliance not enough in Game 2 loss to Warriors

LeBron James' basketball career has played out like the story of a comic book superhero, so it's only fitting that his downfall should have a fittingly dramatic twist: that which he created became that which destroyed him.

So the talk will inevitably turn back to Love, 28.

LeBron James had powerfully dragged the Cleveland Cavaliers into a competitive fight on Sunday night, but for a chance at an upset, he needed a sliver of help in the final eight minutes to take this series back to Cleveland tied. And you got to expect them to play, obviously, better at home.

Now, Golden State is headed to Northeast Ohio needing just two more - yet don't count on anybody considering this series close to done.

The Warriors broke no rules (other than player tampering, perhaps), did nothing but bring together a team with what some thought might be too much talent, and not only made it work, but made it sing, made it reach orchestral heights.

With many seats priced north of $1,000, it should come as no eye-opener that sellers anticipate the Finals to be as invigorating as Kendrick Lamar's pre-game instrumentals hype it up to be.

Warriors: The Warriors had their first 40-point quarter in the Finals since scoring 41 in the first quarter of Game 6 in 1967 against the 76ers. The Warriors started to pull away in the third quarter, building a 14-point lead to start the fourth quarter.

If the playoffs are what matter most, no team has been this dominant.

May's lead widens ahead of June 8 election - ORB poll
May's lead has collapsed from 24 points since she surprised both rivals and financial markets on April 18 by calling the election. ORB said May's lead had increased from six percentage points in its previous poll which was published on May 27.

Saina Nehwal loses in semis, B Sai Praneeth enters Thailand Open final
However, Saina came back strongly to win the next two points, before levelling the game at 5-5. He had managed to win seven consecutive points.

From purely a scoring standpoint, Irving has done fine: 24 points in Game 1 and then 19 points in Game 2 of the Finals.

In the first half, James - who entered the Finals with a road victory in 29 straight postseason series - was a one-man wrecking crew, stampeding his way to the rim time and again while racking up 18 points, six rebounds and 10 assists. In the three-point era, teams have only cracked those figures 37 times in the postseason, per basketball-reference.com, with the Warriors doing it twice these playoffs. They were in the same spot previous year, down 2-0 with the eulogies half-written halfway through the series, only to take an eraser to the score, the narrative and to history.

It's about putting a player on the court who can at least give Kevin Durant a different obstacle course to maneuver while keeping James fresh-ish. They also added one of the league's best three-point threats in Kyle Korver. In fact, the Warriors have lost just one of their last 30 games - their only defeat since mid-March coming way back on 10 April to the Jazz.

Rather than reach back to last year's championship comeback for a confidence boost, James' focus is on figuring out what Cleveland must do to change its fortunes against a Warriors team that is fresher and far more unsafe this year, thanks to the addition of Kevin Durant.

They have the best player in the world. "Running around with Steph (Curry) and chasing Klay (Thompson) and chasing Steph and constantly having to be on alert, it takes a lot out of you offensively".

There hasn't been much the Cavs can do to stop Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry. The trend isn't in Cleveland's favor either.

But that hasn't stopped the notion that Cleveland might be better off making a trade. And through two games, that pitch has borne out. Maybe LeBron, Irving playing his A-game and the Cleveland crowd would be enough for them to manage three wins. That was the path. But thinking they have a shot to win it all feels too far-fetched for even a comic book.
