Pakistan army official sends message to India after Sunday's results

After three consecutive defeats in the World Hockey League (WHL) semi-final, Pakistan defeated Scotland by 3-1 in their last pool match at London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Monday. The previous best performances against Pakistan for India were two identical 7-4 wins, in the 2003 Champions Trophy and 2010 Commonwealth Games. The 7-1 win is India's biggest win over Pakistan ever.

Celebrations erupted in Pakistan after a memorable win over their arch rivals and while some of them were heart-warming to see, the celebratory messages by the Pakistan Army personnel Major General Asif Ghafoor left a bad taste. Harmanpreet Singh enthralled the Indian fans, who had turned up in full strength with India's fourth goal in the 33rd minute. This was the first game between the two sides, since the 2016 Asian Champions Trophy final, which India won 3-2. Pardeep Mor (49th) too contributed a goal for India.

Fakhar Zaman scored a century for Pakistan in the first innings, with Mohammed Hafeez chipping in towards the end, to propel their side to a strong total of 338/4.

In the second quarter, Pakistan saw an equaliser chalked off due to an infringement and as the game wore on, both Gavin Byers and Kenny Bain missed the opportunity to make it 2-0.

Muhammad Arslan Qadir then netted from a penalty corner deflection eight minutes after that and Muhammad Aleem Bilal finished off Scotland with a third after 46 minutes. Canada won their second PC with less than two minute for the final hooter but a great stop by Surender Kumar denied Canada from converting and India walked away victorius. Ramandeep Singh was the main man of that match, scoring a brace. "We scored some outstanding goals today".
