Wenger faces testing end to transfer window

Chelsea had been expecting to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain after Sky Sports reported that the London club had agreed a £35 million deal with Arsenal for the England worldwide.

The 24-year-old is believed to have turned down more lucrative offers from both the Gunners and Chelsea, in pursuit of a regular role in midfield under Jurgen Klopp.

But his biggest problem at Arsenal has been an inability to hold down a position in the Gunners' team, especially as he'd like to play central and he's mostly used as a wing-back these days.

"The decision to leave was tough after being a part of the club for so many years, but I feel that this move is right for the next stage in my ongoing development", he said.

Rocked by Arsenal's humiliating 4-0 defeat at Liverpool, Arsene Wenger faces a series of damaging transfer window defections that threaten to derail his side's already chaotic season.

He was constantly questioned about the contracts of Arsenal's key players-how the club had allowed Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's contracts to run down withut trying to renew them.
