Sony Announces New PSVR Headset

All PlayStation VR games will be compatible with both models of the headset, so gamers shouldn't have to worry about that. Sony has, however, confirmed that there will be no change in the pricing of the new headset. However, unlike the first model released past year, the new one integrates stereo headphone cables into the headset itself, reducing wires sticking out from the device. Coupled with a slimmed down connection cable, the result is a cleaner look compared to its CUH-ZVR1 predecessor. This much-requested feature will enable users to play HDR-compatible content on a TV without having to disconnect the Processor Unit. But as this change necessitates a new Processor Unit and cables, owners of the previous PSVR model can not simply swap out units for the older existing model. That should mean that the cheapest bundle for the revised PS VR headset will continue on at $399.

We haven't yet heard a rollout plan date for western territories or those in Australia, though the Sony US blog hints that a North American launch is set for a "later date".

They would have to buy the PlayStation VR if they want to take advantage of that new Processor Unit. Facebook-owned Oculus managed to shipped a total of 246,900 units with an 11.6% market share, and HTC has 4.4% share.

Even though Sony already unveiled the new model, called CUH - ZVR2, it will only become available for purchase later on. To mark the milestone, the firm will be launching a series of video clips celebrating the wearable VR headgear and the popular fulfillment. But while you might expect this to be a major revision, with some significant new features or functionality, the v5.0 update appears to be full of relatively minor changes.
