We must take pride in our heritage: PM Narendra Modi

PM Narendra Modi referred to "izzat ghar" - a term coined by the UP government, which links women's pride with the construction of toilets - during a speech he delivered while inaugurating the first ever All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) here. "Those nations who leave their heritage behind are destined to lose their identity", he said. It advocates preventive healthcare methods of treatment; it is not a system of medicine, but a science of life and longevity and ayurveda will provide affordable health care. "I congratulate the state government for coining this name", Modi had said at the time in Varanasi.

The new institute, Modi said, would promote such inter-disciplinary research involving the exponents of Ayush, Indian Council of Medical Research and foreign collaborators. That is why the Government has laid stress on integrating Ayurveda, Yoga and other AYUSH systems into the public healthcare system.

Further divulging the initiatives of BJP government towards ayurveda, PM Modi said, "It is critical for ayurveda's expansion that there is a hospital linked with it in every district which offers quality healthcare services".

The institute is modelled on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and is set up under the Ministry of AYUSH. "It encompasses social health, public health and environmental health", Modi said while inaugurating the institute.
