Bossie: Sessions Must Appoint Special Counsel to Investigate Uranium One Deal

This news comes the same day as controversial House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes announced that his committee will be examining a uranium deal with Russian Federation approved during the Obama administration, one that President Donald Trump has used to deflect scrutiny of his own alleged Russian Federation ties.

Russian Federation gradually acquired control of a Canadian mining company-Uranium One-with mining stakes in the United States from 2009 to 2013, a series of agreements that gave it control of 20 percent of America's uranium production capacity.

A second probe targets a 2013 decision by the Obama administration to approve the sale of a Canadian mining company Uranium One to Russian state-owned company Rosatom.

The Iowa Republican sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions last Wednesday asking whether the Department of Justice was investigating the fact that former President Bill Clinton was paid for a speech around the time that the United States government approved the Uranium One deal, and that Russians donated millions to the Clinton Foundation years before the uranium deal.

"We're not going to jump to any conclusions at this time", Nunes said.

"One of the things that we're concerned about is whether or not there was an FBI investigation?"

Grassley claims that the DOJ, under Obama, "threatened" the informant with prosecution "if he disclosed details of his involvement in the investigation". "And if so, why was Congress not informed of this matter?" he said.

"And in fact when I made a decision to just do it, I said to myself, I said you know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made-up story, it's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won", he said in the May interview.

Nunes announced his new probe days after Fusion GPS - the firm behind the explosive Steele dossier - accused him of going back on his April decision to step away from the Russian Federation investigation.

Nunes said Tuesday that he has not spoken with the White House about the uranium matter.

"Never before has a political party been so sad that it won the White House and so desperate for the other party to be President", Jesse Ferguson tweeted, in response to news of the new investigation.

The line of attack was renewed recently after the Hill reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had found "substantial evidence" that Russian officials engaged in "bribery, kickbacks, extortion and money laundering created to grow Vladimir Putin's atomic energy business inside the United States" before the Obama administration gave the deal the go-ahead.
