The owner of two pitbulls which mauled a woman to death in her front yard on Christmas Eve has been arrested for harboring a vicious animal.

A dispatch official said the caller reported that his brother and sister-in-law were attacked by two of their neighbor's dogs.

Lorraine Brock Saylor, 66, and her husband were attacked by two pit bulls Sunday morning, Bell County officials said.

Johnny was able to get away and grab his gun and shot at the dogs, killing one.

One dog was fatally shot as it lunged at him.

Police are asking people in the community to be on the lookout for a brown and white pit bull that is injured.

The toddler had entered a fenced enclosure which housed two pit bull dogs when the creatures started attacking him.

At the time of the attack, Lankford was in the Bell County Detention Center for crimes related to assault, domestic violence, and unlawful imprisonment. Deputies were called to the scene around 10:20 a.m. Sunday on Highway 66 in the Wiser Branch area, the Bell County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

"I'd seen them, but I didn't think they'd be mean like that", James Saylor said. "The ambulance kept trying to get him to go to the hospital but he wouldn't leave until I took her into our care", Steele said. "She was just a sweetheart" said Steele.

Also responding to the scene was Bell County EMS, Bell County Coroner Jay Steele, Bell County Animal Control Officer Patsy Bracken and assistance from the Kentucky State Police Post 10.

Lankford's two dogs which attacked the woman.

An autopsy for Saylor is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday in Frankfort, Ky.
