Barcelona Releases Statement Denying Any Agreement With Antoine Griezmann

Coutinho's decision sparked rumours that Barcelona are holding back the famous number 7 shirt for Griezmann to join, however the club has released a statement to deny any such deal was close.

Barcelona have denied reaching an agreement with Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, contradicting reports which had appeared in the Catalan press on Saturday.

Spanish publications including SPORT and Marca claimed that the Atletico Madrid striker was on his way to the Camp Nou, with Barca having matched the player's 100 million euro release clause.

"FC Barcelona expresses its objections in the face of these events and reiterates its full respect for the institution of Atletico Madrid", added the statement.

But in the end Griezmann opted to stay at Atletico Madrid when they were hit with a transfer embargo.

Barca have already caused a stir with Atletico over their pursuit of Griezmann, as the Madrid club filed a complaint to Federation Internationale de Football Association to warn them off in December.

Amor was asked in December about Barca's desire to sign Griezmann after a Mundo Deportivo report that president Josep Maria Bartomeu had held a meeting with the forward's family.

"We're obliged to have contact with players".

Some reports also suggest that Griezmann is still hoping against hope for a Manchester United move.

Barcelona's decision to come out in public to say there has been no agreement with Griezmann may come as a welcome boost for Manchester City and their manager Pep Guardiola.

However, Atletico coach Diego Simeone has since said he would not stand in Griezmann's way if he made a decision to leave the Wanda Metropolitano for pastures new.

Griezmann signed improved terms in Madrid just over six months ago but speculation continues to link him with a move elsewhere.
