Instagram brings GIF stickers to photos and videos for stories

Meanwhile, the new GIF-making feature is now available only on the Gboard iOS app and not on the Android app. According to Instagram, this feature will be rolling out to users in the "coming weeks".

When you tap to add a sticker to a photo or video in stories, you'll now see a new GIF option. The update also adds in support with GIPHY, which has a vast library of stickers. Instagram says that GIPHY has animated stickers for "just about anything", so as long as you're willing to spend searching for a specific one, you should be able to find a sticker that fits perfectly with what you're looking to express with story. Tap on the sticker you want to add to your story. Also, the feature is not immediately available on iOS and it is visible only after reinstalling the Gboard app. Google hasn't officially announced the feature and its app store page also does not mention it.

Scroll down a few rows and you'll see a new option: the GIF sticker.

While the GIF-making feature has been available on Gboard iOS app since September previous year, it was hidden behind the emoji button at the bottom.

Now, the social media giant has confirmed the feature's rollout to all users.

Popular photo-sharing platform Instagram is rolling out a new feature that helps users search and add GIF stickers to their Instagram "Stories". You can then save the animation to your camera roll or copy and paste it into whichever app you're using. The content can be shared in its original dimensions, irrespective of its form (square, landscape, or portrait).

You'll now be able to overlay your photos and videos with animated stamps like accessories, sparkles, or word art.

The extra room around images or videos will be filled in by a color gradient that matches the file.
