Here's why Lorde turned down a Grammy performance

After not being able to come to an agreement with the company, Lorde chose to pull out of the show altogether and has even said she won't appear on the red carpet.

Lorde, the recording artist nominated for Album of the Year, has refused to perform at this year's Grammy Awards.

Lorde won't perform at the Grammys because she wasn't offered a solo spot, according to USA media reports.

The "Royals" singer, whose new record "Melodrama" was nominated for album of the year, was only offered a chance to sing part of a Tom Petty tribute song at the music-awards show in Manhattan on Sunday, TMZ reported. They would only let her perform as part of a planned Tom Petty tribute.

In an article recently published by Variety, it was revealed that Lorde was the only Album Of The Year nominee the Grammy's failed to offer a solo performance slot during the ceremony.

A bubbling undercurrent of sexism was also pointed out by Lorde's mother, Sonja, who took to Twitter to highlight that in the last 6 years, only 9% of the 899 of Grammy nominees have been women.

Though Lorde has been nominated for Album of the Year at tonight's Grammys, she won't be performing like the other (all male) nominees in her category.

TMZ reports she'll also be giving the Grammy's red carpet a miss this year, though she will attend the ceremony.

Ultimately, it appears Lorde declined to perform at the Grammys.

The 21-year-old did however sing elsewhere this weekend at the pre-Grammys annual event where she sang with the likes of Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus in honour of the 60s band Fleetwood Mac.
