Russell Wilson lives out dream by taking batting practice with Yankees

The Yankees have said that Wilson will not play in a game during his almost week-long stint in camp, but he will take batting practice in a group with Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Greg Bird and Gary Sanchez prior to Monday's game against the Phillies.

Wilson described his emotions as he donned his Yankees gear alongside Major League Baseball stars like Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge.

He's wearing No. 73 - a combination of No. 7, his high school baseball number and No. 3, his pro football number. But, some fans may not know that Wilson is a gifted baseball player as well.

The Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl-winning quarterback is scheduled to spend five days at the facility with the Yankees following a trade last week in which he was sent to NY by the Texas Rangers.

"It's just cool being able to pick his brain", Judge said.

"I think if you really know me you know baseball has been a part of my blood and who I am and [where] I've come from and what I've done. When you see me make plays on the football field, a lot of that is a direct correlation to baseball", he said.

The Yankees are already loaded with home-run hitters, as the Bronx Bombers added Giancarlo Stanton in the offseason to join Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez.

Still, an overflow of cameras and reporters were there to chronicle his first day at Yankee camp. "I want to learn as much as I can and also compete as much as I can".

Wilson will not appear in a game, but he did get a chance to take infield practice. He then hit three in his next four tries, cleared the left-field walkway and clanked his final drive off the center-field batter's eye. "Now, I couldn't just step on a basketball court". "When he's working out, everything is for a goal".

"He did not look rusty at all", shortstop Didi Gregorius said, per Jenna Laine of ESPN. He wand the Yankees were all smiles. He wore No. 73 - his football number, 3, is retired by the Yankees for Babe Ruth and his baseball number in high school was 7, retired by NY for Mickey Mantle. "To wear this jersey and the Yankees cap, to put this on is a dream come true".

"It's always fun to have a guy that's enthusiastic about baseball, that's a fan of the Yankees, that wants to come to camp - especially as great of an athlete as he is - I think he can offer a lot, with him being a victor and things like that".

"Watching those guys is fun - they would definitely would be tight ends for me", Wilson smiled. However, Wilson will only be a part of the Yankees during Spring Training, and won't participate in any games. Mainly, Wilson's presence is "a good situation for us to get some exposure to one of the premier athletes in sport", and "breaks up the monotony of our camp".

"I love playing the game I play now", he said. You think about 27 world championships, what that takes, the mentality, there's something.there's an aroma around here that I've got to figure out. It's the best job in the world, and so for me I'm very passionate about that. Wilson quarterbacked the Badgers to the 2012 Rose Bowl.

Judge declined to go into specifics about what Wilson said but did say he continued to talk to the quarterback afterward. Boone said Frazier likely will miss a few days but not more.
