Turkey detains 4 IS suspects planning to attack USA embassy

Four members of the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia), suspected of preparing an attack against the USA embassy in Turkey, were arrested in the country's north, local media reported Monday.

The Ankara governor's office said authorities had reviewed security in the capital and had taken additional measures, following intelligence provided by usa "sources" about possible attacks against the embassy or where Americans are staying. It did not specify the nature of the security threat.

Those detained in Ankara were among 20 people prosecutors had issued arrest warrants for earlier, Turkish public news agency Anadolu reported, as the security forces were seeking remaining suspects.

Several digital documents were seized in the operation, the agency reported.

A total of 3,000 Daesh terrorists were killed in Operation Euphrates Shield in Syria, Bozdağ said, while 1,000 others were killed trying to attack the Turkish camp in Iraq's Bashiqa. Close to 2,000 of them were "foreign terrorist fighters", the minister said. A lone gunman killed 39 people at an Istanbul nightclub during New Year's Eve celebrations.
