Utica College on lockdown due to 'real, credible threat'

A lockdown at Utica College was lifted around 5 p.m. Monday, after police conducted a thorough search of every building on campus. Residential students to be escorted back to res halls by law enforcement, and must remain there until lockdown is lifted.

WUTR reports there was a pair of phone calls threatening some sort of action at the college's science center. There are armed police officers on campus. No shots were fired. Utica College has cancelled afternoon and evening classes and all athletic activity of Monday.

NBC affiliate WKTV says the Utica City School District and New York Mills Union Free School District are both under precautionary lockouts due to the situation at Utica College. Utica Police emphasized that no one had been injured at Utica College and no acts of violence had been reported.

The school has been sending out tweets to keep students and staff up to date on the status of the threat. Police say no shots were fired and no injuries were reported. "This agency, along with other local, state, and federal agencies are on scene investigating the incident".
