Oakland Raiders releasing cornerback Sean Smith

Back in March of 2016, Sean Smith signed a 4-year, $40 million deal with $20 million guaranteed with the Oakland Raiders.

The Silver and Black have released cornerback Sean Smith, a source told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Cook led the Raiders in receiving yards last season with 688 on 54 catches. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team hadn't announced the move.

He pleaded guilty to assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and also admitted to the allegation that he inflicted great bodily injury upon the victim, Christopher Woods, 28, of Atlanta, according to Ricardo Santiago, spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

The longtime boyfriend of Smith's sister was trying to intervene in a dispute between the siblings, the prosecutor said.

European Union plan to avoid hard Irish border unacceptable, says Arlene Foster
Foster appeared to offer support for the prime minister's suggestions that lessons could be learned from the Canada-US border. The Sinn Féin leader added that there could be no overall agreement on Brexit unless the issue of the Irish border was solved.

His plea will have him serving one year in prison with three years probation, but if convicted as charged, Smith faces a maximum sentence of seven years.

The Mercury News' Rick Hurd and Matthias Gafni reported the victim identified herself as an ex-girlfriend of Smith's during a call with an emergency dispatcher.

Smith struggled again early in 2017 and was replaced in the starting lineup by TJ Carrie, before finishing the season strong after John Pagano replaced fired defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. for the final six games.

Smith first reached the National Football League as a member of the Miami Dolphins and spent the first four years of his career as their starting cornerback.
