"I am honored to be named the head coach of the University of Pittsburgh men's basketball program", Capel said in a press release.

Pittsburgh is turning to Jeff Capel to turn around its struggling basketball program.

The 43-year-old Duke graduate worked under Mike Krzyzewski for the past seven years.

Capel has spent the past seven seasons at Duke University, including the past four seasons as associate head coach under Mike Krzyzewski. He had a 79-41 record over four seasons (2002-2006) at VCU, before going to Oklahoma for five seasons (2006-2011) with an official 83-69 record after 13 wins from the 2009-10 season were vacated due to using an ineligible player.

Pitt fired its head coach Kevin Stallings in March after two seasons. Capel will need it, taking over a team that finished 8-24 and 0-18 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Cure for Alzheimer's disease remains elusive
It is one of the only causes of death among the top ten that can not be cured, prevented or even slowed in its progress. The only way a scientist can accurately diagnose the disease is through an autopsy.

"Pitt has a great tradition of success and I look forward to putting together a staff and team that will enable us to build on that tradition", Capel said in a statement.

Scheyer, a player on Duke's 2010 national championship team, has been an assistant with the Blue Devils since 2014 after a short professional playing career. Things went south at the end of Capel's tenure at Oklahoma, as the Sooners went 27-36 and missed the NCAA Tournament in two straight seasons. The Rams qualified for the NCAA tournament in his second season.

The Oklahoma Sooners took on Capel next in the 06-07 season. That would be his experience recruiting in the ACC. Capel has been called Duke's most important recruiter, which is quite a title for a program that has landed four 5-star prospects in each of the last four years.

Capel's tenure with the Sooners ended when he was sacked in March 2011 as part of the fallout from an NCAA investigation that discovered former Oklahoma assistant Oronde Taliiaferro broke NCAA rules by failing to report that a player had received an impermissible extra benefit and by lying to investigators.

The Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Duke Blue Devils 85-81 in the 2018 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Midwest Regional at CenturyLink Center on Sunday.
