The five bodies were found a few days after Washington state authorities began investigating the Harts for possible child neglect.

Authorities believe the body may be that of one of the missing girls from the crash. They also say the fire does appear to be suspicious. The sheriff's office said it's likely that a storm passing through Northern California had caused the body to drift closer to the beach.

Authorities believe the family left their home in Woodland, Washington - leaving behind many of their belongings, including a pet and some chickens - and drove more than 500 miles south to California's Mendocino County. The bodies of Jennifer and Sarah Hart were found March 26 inside their vehicle at the rocky shoreline below a cliff.

Investigators have also said the SUV's software indicates the vehicle stopped at the highway pullout before it accelerated straight off the cliff, according to The Associated Press. She was sentenced to community service and one year of probation.

She told police she had spanked the child over the edge of the bathtub because of the child's behavior.
