Children Died after a Bus Accident in India

As many as 30 people died including 26 school children and ten others sustained injuries when a private school bus carrying about 40 children skidded off the road and fell into a 150 ft deep gorge on Nurpur near Malkval this afternoon.

"The bus rolled into 200 feet (60 meters) deep gorge, killing 27 schoolchildren, two teachers, and the driver", a senior local police official, Santosh Patial, told AFP from the scene.

"My first priority was to save lives".

According to her, all the dead children were aged under 10 years.

A five-car accident not far from Mercedes-Benz Stadium left one person in critical condition in a collision that also involved a school bus.

Investigators say tire marks at the accident site suggest that the bus was traveling too fast and the driver may have made a mistake in steering the wheel.

Some of the seriously injured have been taken to hospital in Pathankot.
