Hundreds of teachers skipped school, marched across the Denver metro area and gathered at the state Capitol on Monday morning to get their message across: more funding for schools.

Marsaln-McBride, who teaches in the west Tulsa district of about 1,200 students, said the association's announcement ending the walkout amounted to telling everyone to go back to their normal routines.

On Sunday, teachers in the Poudre School District were preparing for a busy Monday.

Kentucky Governor, Matt Bevin, who holds the Republican majority in the Legislature said, "What I'm seeing in Louisville is teachers are a lot more politically engaged than they were in 2015 or 2016".

The Colorado Education Association is hosting what it's calling a "Lobby Day" and the Englewood teachers are joining the CEA in support. They promised to continue sending small delegations of teachers to press lawmakers for adequate funding of the state's K-12 schools.

Teachers in Colorado earn about $7,000 below the national average of $58,064 a year, according to a survey by the Colorado School Finance Project, a nonpartisan, nonprofit education watchdog group.

"It's about the fact that Colorado has the top performing economy in the country, and yet our schools are still funded at or near the bottom", List said. "They don't speak for me, and I think that (coming today) was to us a way of saying this is not over".

But Preist said the efforts by teachers to win more money for education is not over.

Districts across Colorado are participating in walk-ins.

- Education funding: Colorado effectively has underfunded its schools by $828 million, the CEA says, because the state hasn't kept up with a state constitutional mandate passed last decade to increase funds each year by at least the rate of inflation.

The CEA said it was expecting about 400 teachers at Monday's Capitol rally.
