Chiefs select Mississippi DL Breeland Speaks in second round

Former Florida State defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi has been selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The Chiefs have the 24th pick in the round, along with a sixth-round pick and two choices in the seventh round. So that meant new general manager Brett Veach had to watch everybody else, including their AFC West rivals, fill their holes before the Chiefs could do the same.

The Chiefs struggled to pressure the quarterback and stop the run previous year, ranking toward the bottom of the league in both categories. As a senior, he racked up 10 tackles for loss, including 3.5 sacks. Twelve of those came in his final game as Ole Miss won the Egg Bowl.

In previous seasons, Nnadi showed the ability to get after the passer a bit more, so perhaps the Chiefs like what they see overall in his body of work in terms of getting a disruptor. They have a glaring need for a cornerback, pass rusher and defensive lineman, though tight end and offensive line are also possibilities.
