'Boy' Will Be Dropped From Boy Scouts, As Girls Are Joining

Less than a year after the Boy Scouts of America chose to invite girls to join, the organization announced that it will refer to its older youth program as "Scouts BSA" starting in February 2019. The parent organization will remain the Boy Scouts of America, and the Cub Scouts - its program for 7-to-10-year-olds - will keep its title as well.

Notably, the recruitment of girls into the Scouts program allows them to reach the rank of Eagle Scout - which is the organization's highest designation, and which Williams' son just reached - for the first time.

Sam Snoddy has been a local scouts master for more than 50 years.

"As we enter a new era for our organisation, it is important that all youth can see themselves in scouting in every way possible", Michael Surbaugh, chief Scout executive of the Boy Scouts of America, said in the statement. "We're trying to find the right way to say we're here for both young men and young women".

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) ran a $45 million deficit in FY 2016, a $18 million deficit in $2015, and a almost $34 million deficit in 2013, when the BSA was in the midst of its fight over the exclusion of gay scouts. I was a Boy Scout (first I was a Cub Scout) of less than attributed success.

Girl Scout leaders said they were blindsided by the move, and they are gearing up an aggressive campaign to recruit and retain girls as members.

10-year-old Ana Garcia is on the path to become one of the first girls to receive the highest rank of Eagle Scout. She joined the Boy Scouts and sparked a sibling rivalry with her brother

"They caved to left-wing social engineers who want to remove the concept of male masculinity from society", Williams continued, bemoaning the fact that, according to him at least, liberals believe masculinity is "toxic" and "boys should no longer be boys".

BSA says that more than 3,000 girls nationwide have already enrolled in its early adopter program and are now active in the Cub Scouts. The change will take effect in February.

After deciding to welcome girls, the Boy Scouts will simply be known as Scouts BSA from this day forward. The organization has also been facing low membership numbers and bad press, two other factors that may have affected the decision to change the name.

"They will have the opportunity to earn the same ranks and participate in the same activities as the boys who participate now in that program".

Surbaugh explained that single-sex units will ensure that girls will not have to compete with boys for leadership positions. The organization says it has almost 2.3 million youth members between five and 21, a decrease from the 2.8 million members in 2012.

She said relations with the Boy Scouts in her region used to be collaborative and now are "very chilly".
