SpaceX delays launch debut of upgraded Falcon rocket

SpaceX has launched a satellite for Bangladesh using an upgraded rocket designed for dozens of repeat flights.

The launch will take place today at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, and will carry Bangladesh's first satellite, Bangabandhu-1, into Geostationary Transfer Orbit.

SpaceX provided viewers with brief play-by-play updates on its Twitter account where it eventually shared an image (above) of the first stage successfully touching down on the droneship. SpaceX says it will try again Friday.

The highly-anticipated launch of the "Block 5" Falcon 9 rocket finally took place today, marking the debut of SpaceX's Bangabandhu Satellite-1 mission.

The rocket is the latest and greatest version of the company's Falcon 9 platform, and it's created to be extremely easy to refurbish and reuse.

These improvements are not only aimed at making the Falcon 9 more reliable and reusable, but is also in anticipation of the first flights of the Crew Falcon, which will carry astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). This satellite aims to provide broadcast and communications services to citizens in Bangladesh. You can watch the entire thing in SpaceX's video below. The company won't allow for humans onboard until it's flown seven successful launches, but with the rate of SpaceX's overall launch and return success, those seven successful launches could happen sooner than expected.

Satellite launching company SpaceX successfully threw Bangabandhu-1, the country's first commercial satellite, to the orbit in U.S. local time 4:14pm (Bangladesh time 2:14am). It's the first satellite belonging to Bangladesh.
