An Israeli soldier has killed a Palestinian youth during a raid in the occupied West Bank village of Nabi Saleh.

A follow-up Twitter post said the episode would be further examined by the Israeli military and that the findings would be passed to the chief military lawyer.

The soldiers also shot another Palestinian with a live round and caused many others to suffer the effects of teargas inhalation, during protests that took place after the soldiers killed Tamimi. The spokesman said that he was "given medical treatment at the scene", but did not survive.

Israel has drawn global condemnation for its use of deadly force during the mass demonstrations.

Israel captured east Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war and annexed it to its capital, a move not recognized by most of the worldwide community.

Tensions were further heightened last month after the US moved its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in a step seen by both Israel and the Palestinians as siding with Israel on the most sensitive issue in the conflict.
