The online retailer, which previous year shipped more than 5 billion packages through its Prime program, on Thursday said it is looking for hundreds of entrepreneurs "with little to no logistics experience" to set up their own delivery businesses - complete with Amazon-branded vehicles and uniforms.

The expansion of its Delivery Service Partners program, which would let small business owners build their own company with up to 40 delivery vehicles, is the latest move by the online retailer to shake up the traditional logistics ecosystem with the aim of speeding up delivery times.

Amazon is getting into the package delivery business, with Youngstown one of many markets the company is targeting.

As little as $10,000 is needed to get started and logistics experience was not required, according to its website, where interested individuals can apply for the program.

Amazon is looking for entrepreneurs to help build out its delivery service with tens of thousands of new drivers across the U.S.

Amazon will work with the entrepreneurs - referred to as "Delivery Service Partners" - and pay them to deliver packages while providing discounts on vehicles, uniforms, fuel, insurance, and more.

"You choose the pace at which you want to grow, and you get an opportunity to be a business leader in your community", Dave Clark, the senior vice president of Amazon's worldwide operations, told CNNMoney. "As we evaluated how to support our growth, we went back to our roots to share the opportunity with small-and-medium-sized businesses".

Amazon is offering new incentives to anyone who wants to open and run a courier business delivering packages for the e-commerce behemoth.

Earlier this year, President Trump tweeted that Amazon's deal with the USPS was costing the US money for being Amazon's "delivery boy". It already has 7,000 of its own trucks and 40 airplanes which, along with external delivery partners, shipped more than 5 billion Prime items a year ago.

Amazon has built up a fleet of more than 6,000 trailers and almost three dozen cargo jets to bulk up its long-range delivery network. He's hired 40 workers in five months.

Contractors don't have to lease the vans, but if they do, those vehicles can only be used to deliver Amazon packages, the company said.

The buy-in is as low as $10,000 and Amazon says the potential profit could be up to $300,000.
