From a White House that coined the term "alternative facts", admissions are rare and apologies even rarer.

Hassett told reporters the GDP growth rate is higher than the unemployment rate for the first time in 10 years, not 100 as the president suggested in his tweet.

Another prominent Trump ally who contradicted the president's claim was the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, Kevin Hassett.
