Disney Is Reportedly Planning Several Limited Series Starring Your Favorite Marvel Characters

More screen time: Variety said the actors who play the superhero characters on the big screen will be tapped to star in the small screen shows.

Marvel first announced the development of live-action series for its direct to consumer service back along with the announcement of its live-action Star Wars series, which Jon Favreau is producing.

Variety are reporting that as part of Disney's huge streaming service - the one they insist will have a lower subscription cost than Netflix and is due to launch in late 2019 - Loki will be getting his own series. The potential to bring more Avengers characters to television may also prove to be a big selling point for Disney's streaming service.

The report does not go not to reveal how these shows will integrate with the broader MCU, but considering both met their demise during the events of Avengers: Infinity War, they could both serve as a prequel story to the characters.

Each series is expected to be around six to eight episodes, and the budgets are expected to be hefty rivaling those of a major studio productions. All of these items put together will surely inspire viewers to sign up for Disney's service.

Marvel previously streamed shows on Netflix - Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, etc - and also produced series for networks such as ABC (Agent Carter) and Freeform (Cloak & Dagger). Marvel has plans in place for a few more MCU spin-off TV shows involving heroes (and villains, you never know) that don't have their own standalone movies.

Marvel and Disney had no comment. Streaming is the future, and Disney is exhausted of letting Netflix get all the glory. Adding on to that, Kevin Feige will apparently be involved in a hands-on role and, of course, there's two big names front and centre in Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen.

It's also not hard to see that, though, that while these series certainly sound ambitious to say the least, they could definitely be the thing that lures enough people to check out the platform - and maybe even help it start to eat away at Netflix's edge.
