Bill Cosby is ruled a sexually violent predator ahead of his sentencing

In April, Cosby was convicted of drugging and molesting Andrea Constand, the former director of operations of women's basketball at Temple University, Cosby's alma mater. The determination would require Cosby to register with state police and submit to sex-offender counseling and notification for life.

According to Variety, Cosby remained seated and showed no emotion as his sentence was handed down.

Camille Cosby, Bill Cosby's wife, said in a statement that she had retained a former prosecutor to facilitate her efforts to "uncover the truth" regarding what she says is a feud between O'Neill and Castor.

He left a Pennsylvania courtroom in handcuffs to begin serving a three-to-10 year prison sentence for sexual assault.

The disgraced comedian was sentenced to serve 3 to 10 years in a state prison earlier in the day and many are praising the judge's decision.

Cosby's lawyers had fought the "sexually violent predator" designation, arguing that Pennsylvania's sex-offender law remains unconstitutional and that he is no threat to the public at his age. The publicly available registry lets neighbors and schools search for sexually violent people in their area. With each count carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years, the 81-year-old actor could have been hit with a three-decade sentence behind bars.

In his testimony, Cosby described sexual encounters with a string of actresses, models, and other young women and talked about obtaining quaaludes to give to those he wanted to sleep with.

"I'm not permitted to treat him any differently based on who he is or who he was".

Another Cosby backer, Tony Abery, 61, of Norristown, said: "I think they should let him go and put him on house arrest, or just set him free and let him go".

Bill Cosby refrained from peering at the camera in his glum-looking mug shot, which was taken just minutes after he was sentenced to 3-10 years in prison on September 25.

"Bill Cosby took my handsome, healthy young spirit and crushed it", Constand wrote.

The 2004 incident was the only one that resulted in criminal charges.

The sentencing came as another #MeToo drama unfolded on Capitol Hill, Washington, DC, where Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh stands accused of sexual misconduct more than 30 years ago.

He was convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004, and more than 60 women subsequently came forward with allegations toward him. The judge denied him bail and sent him to prison.

A judge has ruled that Bill Cosby is a "sexually violent predator". His lawyers are arguing that Cosby should remain on home confinement pending appeals.

The comedian's first trial in 2017 ended in a hung jury.

Green, Cosby's attorney, downplayed the outburst on Monday when asking the judge to sentence Cosby to house arrest. They say he has no remorse and is capable of reoffending.
