Chelsea 'embarrassed' over melee involving Jose Mourinho and Marco Ianni

Manchester United's chief coach Jose Mourinho narrowly avoided a brawl with one of Chelsea's assistants, who was celebrating the Londoners' goal way too enthusiastically during a Premier League match.

What happened? Substitute Ross Barkley was well placed to score Chelsea's equaliser in the 96th minute.

As Barkley turned the ball home from close range in the fifth minute of added on time, a member of Chelsea's backroom staff - believed to be Marco Ianni, Maurizio Sarri's second assistant - ran past Mourinho and apparently said something which the United boss was offended by.

I spoke with my staff, and then [Ianni] agreed to speak to Mourinho and say sorry.

"I am not annoyed with anything", Mourinho said.

"Jose Mourinho needs to take him off set-pieces".

"We tried to win from the beginning of the game", the Brazil defender told Chelsea's website.

"I am very happy with the performance of the team for 60 minutes, for 60 minutes we played our football".

Anthony Martial has played down talk of a rift with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho after scoring twice against Chelsea.

Two weeks after his United team overturned a 2-0 deficit to beat Newcastle 3-2 at Old Trafford - a result which may have saved his job - his players nearly performed a similar trick at Chelsea and Mourinho was central to that with his tactics and motivation.

"I am disappointed with the last 30 minutes", he told the BBC.

"We conceded a goal that we should have stopped but we came back". Then after 1-1, we didn't play our football, only the long ball. "He is a more complete player than before but he needs to improve".

"He is unbelievable and shows that finishing in training, he is a fantastic player, he got the goals". Security from both sides pushed their way in and at one point Mourinho was temporarily immobilised by the bear-hug of one of Chelsea's biggest matchday stewards.
