Another suspicious package addressed to CNN intercepted in Atlanta

The first package arrived Wednesday morning in the mailroom at Time Warner Center, home to CNN's NY offices.

In a tweet, CNN President Jeff Zucker said the package posed no danger to the channel.

The FBI has confirmed that a suspicious package recovered at a post office in Atlanta was addressed to CNN and was "similar in appearance to others".

Last week, two of the packages believed to be mailed by suspect Cesar Sayoc, 56 (pictured above left), were addressed to CNN.

Sayoc briefly appeared in a Miami courtroom on Monday.

This article was written by Matt Zapotosky and Devlin Barrett, reporters for The Washington Post. A CNN correspondent posted an image of the package on Twitter, showing that it appeared similar to the other 14.

Packages were also addressed to billionaire George Soros (whose Open Society Foundations has supported NPR in the past) and billionaire donor Tom Steyer, who is financially supporting a campaign to impeach Trump. The first had been addressed to former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan and arrived on Wednesday. The item was addressed to their headquarters in Atlanta and was intercepted offsite. Several other identical devices were sent to prominent Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.

Zucker noted that all mail is being screened off-site - so the offices were never in any danger.

The FBI says its bomb squad in Atlanta is responding to "a suspicious package" at the U.S. Postal Service in downtown Atlanta. A judge set another hearing for Friday on whether to grant bail to Sayoc and to discuss when he will be sent from Miami to NY, where five federal charges were filed.

Later on Monday, a manila envelope bearing "some similarities" to last week's packages containing potentially explosive devices was found in an editor's mailbox. Sayoc was arrested Friday in Florida after investigators said they identified him through fingerprint and DNA evidence.

Authorities say Sayoc faces more than 50 years in prison if convicted on all charges related to pipe bombs sent to political figures across the country.
