The Miami Heat were still in contention to acquire disgruntled forward Jimmy Butler, but their decision to remove Josh Richardson ended such talks.

In a slightly differing report, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that the deal was discussed prior to the Kings game, nearly leading to Butler sitting out, and that it was completed before the team left to head back to Minnesota.

ESPN later added in that the Wolves would also be sending Justin Patton to Philadelphia as part of the deal.
