Republican Lawmakers Are Not Happy With How Their Comey Meeting Is Going

"I'm still happy to sit in the light and answer all questions".

California Republican Darrell Issa said Comey had two lawyers in the room, his personal lawyer and a lawyer from the Justice Department.

Former FBI Director James Comey, with his attorney, David Kelley, left, arrive to testify under subpoena behind closed doors before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington, Friday, Dec. 7, 2018.

Within minutes of Comey's appearance, Trump attacked him on Twitter, and seized on the FBI's guidance to smear him.

"Robert Mueller and Leakin" Lyin" James Comey are Best Friends, just one of many Mueller Conflicts of Interest, ' Trump wrote Friday.

But on Friday, Comey is not bound by a confidentiality agreement. It is the first time he has answered lawmakers' questions since an explosive June 2016 hearing in which he asserted that President Donald Trump fired him to interfere with his investigation of Russia's ties to the Trump campaign. They argued that a closed hearing was 'abusive to witnesses'.

Gowdy told Fox News Thursday that the request to interview Comey is not political, but rather a natural extension of Congress' oversight responsibility over the justice system's extraordinary powers.

Mexico backs Trump’s plan to overhaul asylum rules
As of this weekend, about 5,000 migrants are in Tijuana waiting to enter the USA with majority planning to claim asylum. President Donald Trump and the Canadian government will agree to help spur economic development in the region.

Comey resisted, arguing the GOP-led investigation in the decision-making by the FBI and the Justice Department in 2016 and 2017 was politically motivated.

During the closed-door hearing, GOP members were expected to focus on how FBI and Justice Department handled the Hillary Clinton email probe and launch of the Russian Federation investigation surrounding President Trump. Trump, in turn, has tried to pick up GOP findings of Federal Bureau of Investigation misconduct to discredit the Mueller probe of Russian election interference in 2016 and any collusion with Trump associates.

In addition to Comey's ouster four years into a 10-year term, Trump helped orchestrate the removal from the bureau of Andrew McCabe, who was interim director when Comey was sacked. It is longstanding FBI policy not to discuss details of an ongoing investigation. Congress is investigating how FBI and DOJ handled the Hillary Clinton and Russian Federation probes and, as you can imagine, Comey was one of the top witnesses on their list.

In May 2017 Trump abruptly sacked Comey, who was the senior official leading a criminal investigation into possible collusion with Moscow. Control of Congress shifts in January to Democrats, who are keen to end or alter the probe.

Comey agreed to appear after striking a deal with the House's judiciary committee in which he will be free to speak about the questioning afterward and a transcript will be made public.

"It is being reported that Leakin' James Comey was told by Department of Justice attorneys not to answer the most important questions", Trump said.

The interview is expected to last much of the day.
