Los Angeles Lakers looking to acquire Trevor Ariza in trade

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly interested in bringing back small forward and former local high school standout Trevor Ariza, who is now signed to the Phoenix Suns.

According to Wojnarowski, the Lakers and Suns have been trying to include a third team that would acquire Kentavious Caldwell-Pope as part of a potentially larger deal.

The Phoenix Suns could very well make a trade with their rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to add a 3-and-D wing to provide some spacing and a much-needed defensive presence as they continue their push to compete this season.

According to the report, both teams are looking for a third team that would land the Lakers' backup shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Chandler's arrival was a bit of good fortune as the Phoenix Suns opted to buy him out and waived the 36-year-old early on in the season.

Ariza, 33, is one of the most sought-after players on a Phoenix team that was bottomed out, having dropped 22 of its last 26 games. He is now averaging 8.5 points in 21 minutes, as well as 38 percent shooting from the field and 34 percent on 3-point attempts.

Ariza is now on a one-year deal worth $15 million in his first year with the Suns after spending the last four with the Houston Rockets.

As Wojnarowski points out, a deal can't be done until Saturday, so we'll be playing the waiting game for the next few days.

Ariza, a key contributor on the NBA's best regular-season team last season - the 65-win Houston Rockets - signed a one-year, $15 million contract with Phoenix last summer.

"Ariza's expiring contract allows the Lakers to keep salary cap flexibility into summer free agency".
