Former Nasa engineer makes glitter bomb to prank thieves

What happened: In an 11-minute YouTube video, Mark Rober explains how he puts the device, which is hidden inside an Apple Homepod Box, on the porch to attract thieves to his Amazon packages. That's when Rober took matters into his own hands - literally.

The fun begins once the package is opened - a motorized tub blasts glitter in every direction and fart spray is released every 30 seconds to convince the thieves to throw the package away.

In a video posted on his channel, the 38-year-old, who helped design the US space agency's Curiosity Rover, said his engineering experience left him well-placed to "take a stand" after dismissive police left him feeling "powerless".

It is pretty common for packages left in front of one's doorway to be stolen in the United States.

The former NASA engineer and YouTube personality is truly serving it up.

Some Bloke Made A Glitter Fart Bomb To Get Revenge On Xmas Package Thieves

The glitter bomb (or fart bomb, depending on which aspect of the bomb makes you happiest) is powered by four Android phones, connected together with a custom-made circuit board. He also set it up so he could upload the video to the cloud and track it down using Global Positioning System. The entire fiasco is recorded via four smartphones that are connected to a circuit board that pings Global Positioning System when the package is jostled.

Several different thieves had a massive amount of glitter and fart spray dumped all over them and their surroundings. To make sure he got their reactions on camera, he rigged the box with a Global Positioning System tracker, multiple phones with video cameras - and fart spray. The horrendous smell made the initial thief toss the package, which allowed Rober to deploy this decoy package and capture the reactions of multiple assailants.

"No joke, you can clear a room with one spray of this stuff", Rober said.
