
Light snow, mix arrive later Thursday, warmer Friday
A powerful winter storm taking shape over the central United States shifts is set to charge into the Northeast this weekend, unleashing disruptive amounts of snow and ice. A Winter Storm Warning will go into effect for Grant, Lafayette, Green, Rock and Walworth counties at 3 pm until 6 am Saturday.
Snow will mix with rain and sleet at times, and the storm could last 24 hours through Sunday night, January 20, with the system wrapping up with evening snow showers.
The storm should bring 2 to 8 inches of snow from South Dakota to northern OH, with up to 10 inches in northern Iowa, according to National Weather Service maps. Depending on when the cold air arrives, the Wasatch Front could pick up 1-4 inches of snow by Friday morning.
Highs Saturday in the mid 20s (-3 degrees Celsius), but a north wind at 10 to 15 miles per hour will make it feel like low teens (-11 degrees Celsius). Temperatures reach the upper 30s to lower 40s.
In addition to snow, Friday night's forecast also calls for gusty winds that could impact travel.
